I got to come down for a ride this past Tuesday...weather was beautiful...a bit breazy but warm. I brought a sport 4 wheeler with me instead of a side by side since I was alone. I took the "along the fence trail" and was having an enjoyable ride. That was until a coyote popped up in my path and we bumped into each other. He took off an got outta dodge.

After I regained my composure I got going again and got to thinking. What would happen if you crashed out here on a day like today...who would come to your rescue. I was the only one there. I have ridden dunes all over the US and have never had the experience of being alone. Now to some that might be a good thing...I love the solitude...but out in western Kansas in the middle of the sage brush sand dunes....what could a person do?

I know some will say just use the cell phone and call 911. But as a visitor here do I know if the 911 folks are equipped to go on the dunes to get someone? At Waynoka they have a specially equipped sand buggy with litters just for that purpose. Does Syracuse?

Anyway...just a concern I had after my close call with mother nature. I was there for a couple of hours...but I never did get to wild and crazy on the open sand just because I had these thoughts going around in my head. Thanks for reading...have a good one.

Yes Syracuse does have a specially equipped gator for rescue. It’s always a good thing to ride with someone, ride within your abilities and using your brain goes a long ways. Glad you had a good time and next time try and catch that critter on your ATV. That would be a fun chase!

Looks great! How high can you jump it off a dune though?
