That is a nice looking rail. I bet both of them are a lot of fun. What do u have in it for a motor and what kind of travel do you have?

mine the blue one has a 3800 series II V-6 engine with 26" travel front and 24" rear. the front end at full ride height has 28"' ground clearence and the rear only 24" with the oil pan guard on. that guard was a last minute add on that has come in handy twice now. with out it I have 26" clearance. the red rail has a 3.1 ltre engine and 22" front and 20" rear travel. I don't know ground clearance. that rail has been running for 7 years now I believe. they are both alot of fun. hell all of them are but I just need a smoother ride, hp don't really mean nothing if your getting the snot beat out youself on every ride. this is why I like the motorcycle powered rails I build the best! light weight, fast but not to fast in stock configuration and long travel. fairly cheap to build and real cheap to maintain!

is there a pic of your rail on here or can you post one? I don't know if you were down there when I was last year. I know someone at the gate took some pics of myself getting pulled in backwards, here is a pic of my rail while it was down there after the gears blew.

Both of those rails are very nice looking, and i bet would be a lot of fun. I agree with you, if you dont have a good ride then all the horsepower is just a waste. There is several pics of my rail on here but here is a few of it.

that chassis has a really sleek look to it! what is the wheel base? is that a custom torsion housing? what size motor do you have in it? I never saw you down there last memorial weekend or I would have remembered that rail! I know that isn't a berrien chassis so which is it? I am hoping to make another trip there this memorial weekend but time will tell for sure!

Yea i really like the looks of the frame. The wheel base is 105", the motor is suppose to be an 1835( but i haven't had it apart to make sure). It has stock vw torsion housing in it. I dont know who made the frame, i haven't been able to figure that out.

my v-6 has a 106" wheel base. the frame looks like a few of the ones I saw down town ( if there is such a thing in waynoka ) in waynoka oklahoma at the buggy shop (or atleast that is what I think the name was). he is no longer in buisness as far as I know. there used to be a place on the dunes called sand sation, they also had chassis's that looked like that. the bracing between the upper and lower frame sections looks Identical to what they had ( going off memory ). I don't know if they built them or not. they used to have a sign out front that said " custom built buggies " so I stopped in one time to see if I could purchase a heim ( rod end) , they didn't even know what that was! they had 5 or 6 rollers sitting there the only difference I could see in there custom buggies was the colors. here is a picture of shanes after my conversion. I'm still working on sam t!

a couple of friends of mine build the air cooled high performance motors but I really know nothing about them personally. I personally pre-fer the sport bike power plants myself and after I finish and sell my v-6 rail I will be going back to one of those. one of my friends is a member on this forum user name sam t , he does know his motors! the other friend shane doesn't build as many as sam t but his specialty is building the performance transaxles. shane had an all out built 1835 cc in his rail, that motor shocked the hell out of me! I couldn't believe how much more power it produced over the 1641 cc I had years ago! he has since pushed if farther to a stroker 2180cc I believe. I don't know what sam t 's is but it is a runner too!

I like my 3800 series II v-6 but if I had it to do over again I would go with the 2.3 duratech motor out of a '03 - '06 ford focus! they are mostly alumimum and with a quad valve over head cam engine, adapter plates and clutch's are cheaper, engine mods are cheaper and that motor is 170 hp stock! there are a couple of companies out there that sell some kits to push that motor to 300 hp the hard way! of course you would need a fully built 091 or mendiola transaxle to take it if you ever hit the woops hard or jump the rail. I don't know for sure but I think the 2.3 revs higher than my v-6 which hits the stock rev limiter at 6450 rpm, that is according to the tach and a scanner. :D just had to make sure the tach was right. I would think if your motor runs as good as shanes 1835cc than it runs out more than pretty good.

that 2.3 sounds like a pretty decent engine. Thats the problem i have, there is so many different engines that would be good in a rail and i can't make up my mind which way i want to go.

you could always go with a light weight subaru v-6 and the stock transaxle. i found this info on another site.

Finally, Subaru transmissions can be used in rear engined cars.

We have developed reverse cut ring and pinions for all Subaru 5 speed manual transmissions manufactured from 1990 to present.

These can be used in 2WD or 4WD applications. Replace your VW or Porsche transmission with a modern, compact Subaru one. These are rated to 280hp stock and 650 with aftermarket gears.

Use any Subaru motor from the EJ series with this transmission or use an adapter plate to use a Vw or Porsche powerplant. This transmission raises your engine 3 inches higher than in a VW/Porsche configuration meaning no more shortened sumps and headers.

Currently available in 3.9, 4.1 and 4.4 ratios with more to be announced soon.

More information available on www.subarugears.com

We are also looking for sales distributors worldwide. Contact sales@subarugears.com
